Illustration-#3

Pages: 16-17
I drew this picture based on the scene in the book, where everyone is standing outside getting ready to get picked up by the box carts to be taken to the concentration camps. as you can see everyone alined has a sack on there back containing things they brought with them that was not taken away by the nazi's. at the beginning of the line you see there chief rabbi, standing there, with a sack on his back and his beard was shaven and he did not look happy. There rabbi was known to have a long beard, and always be happy amongst all the people around him. This passage shows how something this devastating can effect people in horrible ways. Seeing something as little as a rabbi's beard being shaven, is a big deal because that would not happen, if there was no war.

  1. I thought it was terrible that they Gernmans tricked the Jews into thinking they were simply "relocating" by telling them to bring all of this stuff. As it turns out, they made them leave their stuff and they were not allowed to bring their belongings. When they got to the camp, they were even stripped of the clothes on their back. I agree that it does show how the war changes people because like you said, the rabbi was sad and his beard was shaved.

  2. It was so pointless for the Jews to carry all their belongings because the German soldiers ended up taking all their stuff anyways, which was a terrible and rude thing to do. The war did change many people and how they were as a person because the prisoners in the camp began to lose faith and their reason to live life. This scene was very depressing when people had to give away not only their belongings, but also their whole life.

  3. It was pointless for the Jew to carry all their belongings because even little kids had huge backpacks on their back that was making them very weak and thirsty. The war changed how everyone saw life, they seen it as though there was no reason to live anymore.

  4. Why were you focusing on the rabbi's beard? I feel bad that all of the people are carrying their belongings because their stuff is going to be taken away and they used energy to pack and hold the stuff when it was unneccessary.
